So, not only has September disappeared, but we are now a good week into October. Gone the plans to have my Christmas fruits soaking already, though I did manage to harvest some blackberries (freezing some until I could add more – they just suddenly went this year) and throw them into a kilner jar with vodka – I have no idea how that will turn out but it cannot be bad, surely…
And now the weather has turned, it is chilly, the heating is on, and it’s dark before you know it. I’ve resisted the desire for a log fire but it won’t be long now.
I need to move my bits and bobs in from the unheated and leaky conservatory, making the most of my wee room tucked at the back of the house into which I’m adding every kind of storage I can think of and afford – a few wine boxes (for which I’ve yearned a few years now) and some second-hand cupboards placed on top of shelves and my bureau. There is still fabric all over the sofabed in there – I perhaps need to stop adding to the stash and start making and selling/gifting. Yes.
But for me, I need to be tidy first and make sure the radiator works in that room, make it homely so I feel quite happy dabbling in there… I know I’m lucky to have a room for myself and that it is blissfully not en-route to anywhere else in the house (you know what I mean!). Time now to make it personal and cosy. A lampshade to start with, and a firm resolve to buy nothing more, however much a bargain, until either some of the stash is cleared or used for making.
Then I’ll allow thoughts of Christmas, and yes, everyone gets something made this year.
What are you up to? Preparing for December yet?
